Fishing with Carpet and friends

Fishing with ‘Carpet’ at Hurst pond

I first met ‘Carpet’ fishing Bascombe in 2005. We became good friends and I began to fish regularly with him and a few others on that lake, which led us to fish a few other small lakes in the local area. He liked his meat fishing, choosing to fish big lumps for carp, with great success catching carp to over thirty pounds. I was more interested in the numbers of carp that I could catch in our usual 8- 12-hour day sessions. The lakes we fished were not commercial fisheries, but they were still fairly well-stocked with the chance of a twenty or bigger but you could still blank if you weren’t on the fish. I had some cracking day’s sport over the years with my best catch being 28 carp in a 12-hour stint out with ‘Carpet’ as I recall he only caught 2 that day!
